And that last reality I don't even want to think about, it is savage ignorance at the nth degree... For a few pounds of something that could be identically produced in a factory, an animal of such magnificence and gentleness be taken out of this world, it saddens me as does all killing of innocent animals... Does man not get it? Does man not care? Does man need possess such an uncaring and savage heart? Cannot man see the beauty of what nature has provided? Cannot man see himself for who he is? Cannot man take the time to realign his thoughts, realign his heart to the gentler rhythms of the world, the universe? I still stand hopeful, I still stand looking toward a brighter horizon, one where not the sun sets but where it rises. Yes, a new day!

When I was very young, my parents took me to a circus in another town. The ONLY thing I was interested in was the elephant. Somehow my father got us an introduction to Michael Ansara - I don't know if you remember him but he was an actor and at that time married to the "I Dream of Jeannie" lady." Anyway, we walked out to a corral to meet him. He picked me up and pictures were taken BUT the elephant was in the corral and all I wanted to do was touch his/her trunk. My mom tells me it scared her to death because the elephant seemed to be as interested in me as I was in him.

That was my first elephant experience and I have loved them ever since and I've NEVER had a bad elephant experience except when they are hunted and slaughtered for ivory.

Tell Us A Little About Yourself
I am a writer, educated, easy-going, a Cancer survivor, usually willing to learn.
What Music Do You Like?
Jazz, Pop, Classical.
What are your creative outlets and/or aspirations?
My writing. I am currently working on The Cancer Chronicles. This actually started as a purging but so many have read it and said that my story has helped demystify the dreaded cancer diagnosis. I'll blog it here also.
What or Who are your greatest inspirations?
My brother-in-law, Ray. He acted as brother, father and best friend even after the divorce from my sister. I can't say enough about his and his journey and his aid to me during my journey.
I adore elephants and this eight-day old baby reaches my heart as most of the animal world does.

Gratitude Campaign

This is my way of celebrating the holidays since -- well, this is the worst time of year for me. I have several alternative ways of celebrating, one of which and the primary, is attending the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebrations at the Taos Pueblo.

And just today I've adopted the Gratitude Campaign to my personal traditions. Click the link; I think you'll appreciate the sentiment.

Cancer Chronicles - Part 1

This is a series of articles recounting my experience in 2003 with the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. I've recorded this with the desire to answer questions that perhaps you might have and to point out the process of the discovery of cancer.

About

Ricky J. Fico Ricky J. Fico created this Ning Network.

Monumental Lives For Monumental Change: ....Join Us!

We Making The Difference!" The Steps Toward A Better World Begin With The Steps Taken To Better Oneself! "A foundation is but the base and it is the collection of building blocks that creates what many should strive to ascend."

Living a monumental life doesn't necessarily mean possession of a large financial fortune or living in the spotlight of public adoration and fame. What I think it means is that you act in accordance with your own identity while acting in ways that are positive and conducive to happiness, serenity and harmony. What I think it means is that you generate positive energies and in turn, your positive energies have a positive effect on others. Linkin' Monuments-- a positive chain of energy! Read More>>>

The Thirteen Reasons

1.) You are as important as the next person
2.) Your contributions to this world are as monumental as the next person
3.)You believe in yourself because you know you "can"
4.)You believe in your neighbors because you know they "can"
5.)No matter how difficult it may seem, you are not alone.
6.)You deserve as much respect as does the next person
7.)Don't wonder so much what your life might have been but put into action what you want your life to become.
8.)You matter because we all matter.
9.)Enough failures will lead to success once you succeed in failing to give up.
10.)This world has so much to offer and you have so much more to offer it.
11.)You have many talents and abilities...a few which may have yet to be uncovered.
12.)The treasures you may seek are near enough the heart that it wouldn't take more than a heartbeat to uncover the most precious gems of all.
13.)You are here because you belong!

Welcome!

The Three Conditions

1.)This network is for one and for all...No matter what color, what creed or belief, what political affiliation you subscribe or what candidate you endorse this network is open to you.
2.)As in any community each one of us has our own unique personalities, traits, belief systems, talents and as long as any of these elements are not breaches against the prosperity of the community then they should be allowed, accepted and honored. Community is about diversity. This is a Community
3.)It is my greatest hope that we learn from each other. Each one of us has so much to offer. No one here is better or smarter or more talented than the next person. Each one of us has our strengths; each one of us has our weaknesses. Your strength in one area is of great benefit to my weakness in that same area. A simple philosophy of mine: "A greedy mine is to learn, yet not teach & A lazy mind is to yearn, yet not reach" Let us not be greedy, let us not be lazy.
