Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance

In 2003, the “Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance” published by Facts On File became the first comprehensive volume on the much celebrated movement that gave birth to modern African-American culture. In February 2006, Black Issues Book Review voted the encyclopedia one its “essential titles for the home library.”

Prior to that, it won the Choice Academic Title Award and Best History Book Award for it’s treatment of an era that not only gave us such outstanding authors as Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes. along exceptional leaders like James Weldon Johnson and W.E.B. Du Bois. It also laid the foundation for the success of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement and provided such lasting legacies as gospel music, jazz, the blues, rap, and other staples of modern-day culture in the United States and around the world. Poems Written by My Friends

Often they open my eyes and shut down my fears.

Sometimes eat lunch naked on the White House lawn.

Build gigabyte nests in my heart like virtual swans.

Will not give you an STD or murder your grandparents.

Will not hack your heartbeat or burglarize your soul.

AWWWWWSOME, Wow I would love to meet you in person and just sit and chat what an interesting person you are. I love poetry and write and have had some published as well but nothing on your scale as of yet. I will have to scope out some of your literary talents.

Thank you kindly. Nice page! I initially had a lighter background for this site with a light banner but most of the members opined for dark backgrounds on their pages so to try and maintain consistency I changed the color scheme of the network to better match the member's pages... I will keep an open mind and as membership increases take a poll as to what is preferred.

Distinguished Guest, Mr, Aberjhani, I too, welcome you here to my less-than-week old network. I see you were a caregiver to your mother as I am currently and it is quite the challenge. I will be relating a lot about that here on this very network...As a follower of the High Renaissance and a person who believes that we are currently in transition to a period what I call the "Golden Renaissance" the book you helped to write and edit, "The Harlem Renaissance" will be of great interest to me. As a writer and voracious reader I try to maintain balance on both sides of the ledger.... I look forward to your insights, knowledge and participation here as I, unequivocally, will do the same on the wonderful network you had created, which I find thought provoking and conducive to my creativity. Thanks again!

Monumental Lives For Monumental Change: ....Join Us!

We Making The Difference!" The Steps Toward A Better World Begin With The Steps Taken To Better Oneself! "A foundation is but the base and it is the collection of building blocks that creates what many should strive to ascend."

Living a monumental life doesn't necessarily mean possession of a large financial fortune or living in the spotlight of public adoration and fame. What I think it means is that you act in accordance with your own identity while acting in ways that are positive and conducive to happiness, serenity and harmony. What I think it means is that you generate positive energies and in turn, your positive energies have a positive effect on others. Linkin' Monuments-- a positive chain of energy! Read More>>>

The Thirteen Reasons

1.) You are as important as the next person
2.) Your contributions to this world are as monumental as the next person
3.)You believe in yourself because you know you "can"
4.)You believe in your neighbors because you know they "can"
5.)No matter how difficult it may seem, you are not alone.
6.)You deserve as much respect as does the next person
7.)Don't wonder so much what your life might have been but put into action what you want your life to become.
8.)You matter because we all matter.
9.)Enough failures will lead to success once you succeed in failing to give up.
10.)This world has so much to offer and you have so much more to offer it.
11.)You have many talents and abilities...a few which may have yet to be uncovered.
12.)The treasures you may seek are near enough the heart that it wouldn't take more than a heartbeat to uncover the most precious gems of all.
13.)You are here because you belong!

Welcome!

The Three Conditions

1.)This network is for one and for all...No matter what color, what creed or belief, what political affiliation you subscribe or what candidate you endorse this network is open to you.
2.)As in any community each one of us has our own unique personalities, traits, belief systems, talents and as long as any of these elements are not breaches against the prosperity of the community then they should be allowed, accepted and honored. Community is about diversity. This is a Community
3.)It is my greatest hope that we learn from each other. Each one of us has so much to offer. No one here is better or smarter or more talented than the next person. Each one of us has our strengths; each one of us has our weaknesses. Your strength in one area is of great benefit to my weakness in that same area. A simple philosophy of mine: "A greedy mine is to learn, yet not teach & A lazy mind is to yearn, yet not reach" Let us not be greedy, let us not be lazy.
